New Beginnings
No. This isn’t a post about the Inauguration. But a re-welcoming to my blog. I have all the kinks worked out (at least the ones I know of) and have moved everything over to WordPress. If you’ve subscribed in the past you will need to do so again. I hope you like the new look. And now I will attempt to post on a regular basis.

2009 Reading List
Last year was a dismal failure for reading. I had a list of books I wanted to read throughout the year. . . 12. . . one a month. . . a relatively easy pace for me. However, life got in the way. I didn’t realize how little free time I would have once Adam arrived. I’m not complaining. I just know I didn’t read as much as I normally do. And the older he’s gotten the harder it is to find time to read. A busy little one year old needs almost constant attention! So I still want to read but I lowered my expectations for this year. I only have six books on my list this year. I’ve already begun reading one (and am about half-way through it). Some of these books may reappear on this blog or on the podcast as reviews. Here they are (in no particular order).
Against Medical Advice by James Patterson & Hal Friedman. I received this for Christmas and have read about half of it already. It’s the true story of Hal Friedman’s son Cory and his battle with Tourette’s Syndrome.
40 Days of Living the Jesus Creed by Scot McKnight. The follow-up to The Jesus Creed, this book has forty readings centered around the Jesus Creed (Love the Lord your God with all your heart, mind and strength and love your neighbor as yourself).
Stewards in the Kingdom: A Theology of Life in All it’s Fullness by R. Scott Rodin. This was on last year’s reading list. . . obviously I never got to it. Rodin takes stewardship beyond just money to our entire relationship with God.
In The Event of My Untimely Demise by Brian Sack is full of humorous and heartwarming musings from a father to son.
First the Dead by Tim Downs. This is the 3rd book in Down’s Bug-Man series. This CSI-type series focuses on forensic entomologist Nick Polchak. The first two books, ShooFly Pie and Chop Shop were great fiction reads. Not typical “everybody-gets-saved and lives happily ever” drivel the plagues much Christian Fiction. There’s a 4th book Less Than Dead which I hope to read soon.
Surprised by Hope by N.T. Wright. Premiere New Testament Scholar N.T. Wright helps us rethink Heaven, the Resurrection and the mission of the Church. Another holdover from 2008’s reading list. I actually started it but never finished it.
There it is. Six books in twelve months. I’ll let you know how I’m doing as the year goes on. What books are you planning on reading this year?
Mathewson Musings Blog
Ok. I’m going to try to start a new blog. Actually I want it to become a video podcast. My big idea is to talk about books, theology, preaching and maybe whatever else strikes my fancy. I hope to tap into knowledge of people much smarter than me through interviews and guest bloggers. I don’t even know if that will happen or what will happen. . .
It will begin small but hopefully grow. For now, my mac will have to serve as the “camera” until I can purchase I “real” video camera. I do have a mic on the way. It’s the “snowball” by Blue. . . a usb mic that will record much better than my mac’s internal mic.
I don’t know when I’ll have the first podcast up! I’m still in the planning stages. But until then I will keep a blog, updating you on the progress of the podcast plus posting book reviews, articles of interest, etc.
